Further Information
Not to be mistaken for cubic zirconia, zircon is a gemstone with a fascinating history. At 4.4 billion years old, it is the oldest mineral on Earth. Zircon was used in jewellery as far back as the 6th century AD and in the Middle Ages was believed to hold many talismanic properties. It is known for its brilliance and fire, second only to diamond. In fact, for centuries, colourless zircon was mistaken for diamond. It comes in many colours and was a popular gemstone in Victorian and Edwardian jewellery. Zircon is one of the birth stones for December.
